Best tuner for 7.3...

So... The father in-law sold his bully dog and is wanting to buy a new tuner for his 02 7.3. Cold air and 5"exhaust. What is everyone running and what works best and good place to order from. I use an SCT tuned by innovative in my 6.0 so the 7.3 is foreign territory to me.

I just got my DP Tuner Infinity on Friday and I have to agree. Their customer service was great and very knowledgeable, Jody took in to account what parts I have and what I want to get out of my truck plus offered so advice. PLUS above all the tunes make my truck runs amazing, first time I touched the gas pedal a bit to much the tires lite up and on economy tune I saw 32mpg.

so I basically have the same question but i'm pretty sure i'll get a dp tuner... when I have the money.

is it worth it to just get the pcm reprogrammed? or should I save my pennies for the tuner with multiple tunes?

I'm selling my SCT now. Nothing wrong with it -and didn't have any issues with the tunes.
I have an Ts Chip for mine now. It's nice being able to just switch on the fly.

I vote for the PHP. Great power Low EGT's and very little smoke! I have had Edge and DP and I prefer the PHP. Jodys tunes are good but i didnt like how the transmission shifted the amount of smoke that his tunes produced. My wife hated the touchie throttle responce was she had a hard time driving the truck unless it wasnt in stock mode. I was also blown away at how much the EGTs when down while i was towing. PHP are on average 150-200 degrees lower while pulling the same grade.

Also if you want to run HID's you are better off going with PHP as the DP has problems interfering with the computer and killing the motor at the worst possable times.

Good Luck

I haven't used anything like the touch screen tuner things, but I have a 6-pos and it is great. Being able to quickly switch between 100hp, economy, and whisper (the three I use most) is nothing short of great. Stop and go, 100 hp, once I'm up to speed on the freeway, I flip it to economy. Nothing more than a release of the peddle and turning the knob.

I use PHP tunes, but TW, DP, and Beans all have good reviews as well. I'm extremely happy with my PHP tunes, but from what I've learned on here, each tuner has their own little tweaks that fit better with different driving styles. PHP does have their new HydraChip that will let you put on tunes from different tuners so you can mix and match the ones you prefer.
