Early 99...Edge Evo or Custom Tunes?

I just purchased this truck 2 months ago.It has 115000 miles and it is a 10/98 Truck, and i was wondering how well the custom tunes work on an early 99. I have tried the edge evo and it made a considerable difference but surged when at idle at 100 Hp setting(like it had a cam)...also blew quite a bit o' smoke..which was pretty cool other than getting a couple middle fingers..i like the edge evo an can get one fairly cheap. also it is a 6-speed. how well does that pair with custom tunes, and can a stock or oem clutch hold up?.."one more thing"....this truck has lighted retractable mirrors like the newer trucks, and how do i go about hooking them up?

I have a DP Tuner F5 on my early 99 with Stock, 60 hp Tow and 80 hp economy programs. No issues or problems and it screams on the 80 hp program, no excessive smoke.

dp tuner way to go and for mirrors run a wire off your parking light circut under the dash to the lights

if you want the lights on the the mirrors to work like they were intended to, you will have to run them to the turn signals also. i know on the 06-08 when you use your turn signal the lights on the mirrors flash. if you don't think its possible, just hook them to the parking lights.

I forgot to mention that I want to keep the truck reliable, I pretty much work 6 days a week. but i do find time to play a little. Will the Edge chip be more reliable?..i have heard the TS can cause multiple problems i dont know how often the occasion? Also does everyone else PSD sound like a jet with 4" staight at factory elevated idle?! it sounds like i jet in town when im drivein at slow speeds it will turn heads for a block or 2.when i hit the fuel a little harder it cuts off. Truck acts cold alot...common?!

First off, the tuning problems some have had with Tony usually have to do with dialing in the truck after injector mods so to say that TW is unreliable is just flat a$$ false.

In the last 170K miles I have reliably have run 4 different chips and two different tuners out there, one of which was Tony's chip. It ran just fine, idled just fine and gave good power. Reliability is tied to other things, not just the chip. It usually has to do with installation of the chip, bad sensors and bad connections.

I personally think Edge is full of promises and big advertising but simply can not deliver the smoothness and power if companies like DP tuner. I would go with DP tuner or TW, in that order.

The adage here is "pick a pony and ride it". Keep in mind you can find Edge stuff all day long on different forums in the for sale section, they are for sale for a reason. If you ask those guys they will say they are upgrading to a TW or DP. You will rarely find a TW or DP chip in the for sale section and when you do it is usually because someone is swapping in a cummapart.
