Detonation?? noise in in 140 extreme..

99.5 7.3, slush box, 4inch dp to a short crack pipe...
TS flipper...

Every now and then, I get a noise in the 140ex, I THINK it only does it when cold... and, mostly at low vehicle speeds.

When I get over 1/2 throttle, it makes a grinding sound... almost like grinding a gear slow, or hitting a reverse gear that is still spinning....

I have used the 140...and NOT had this sound.

I dont see or hear anything that could be mechanical....

Is there something else going on?

Or, is it possible, the engine isn't warmed up enough for it to crank that kinda pressure outta the pump... or... something.

Check your fuel pressure and HPOP pressure? If it doesn't do it in other settings or when it's warm, I'd back off till it warms up.

You should not use the high power tunes until the truck is at full operating temps. Oil temp is the biggest thing that matters here.

Okay, thats sorta what I was hoping... that it was just not up to temp....

Now, the next ? is, what is operating temp? How long shoudl it be driven to get the temps up there? Should I cave in and get a Oil Temp gauge?

I've always thought that if your truck is at operating temps, your oil will be close or at temp (or even above it's operating temp if there is a problem).

Jody told me that max power can not be obtained with the EOT at 196*+.

I would say a oil temp gauge is not necessary. Just use your head. If it feels like is running not quite right in the extreme tune, change to a lower power tune for a little longer. I do this everyday.

Yeah, I normally stay in the 75 tune, sometimes, in the 100...

140 is only for blowing smoke... as, it just lights up the rear tire... and these BFG Muds arent gonna be cheap to replace.
