synthetic trans fluid
When I install my upgrades in February or March(DP Tuner, AFE stage II, MBRP 4" turbo back, turbo wheel, and gauges) I was told to run synthetic trans fluid. First off do you guys run that and if so what kind? Royal Purple and Amsoil are what was recommended to me. I was told the trans runs 20 deg. cooler. Thanks

might wana think about getting a valve body for teh trans as well, after my dp tuner i needed one, gonna put it in next week. I went with a John Wood one. Got it from ITP diesel

How big of deal is the valve body to install and what do they run? What in the DP would cause that to be needed? Thanks

from what ive read you just drain and drop the pan, take the old vb out, put the new one in, and refill the fluid. Im gonna do a full flush as well so i have a little bit more work ahead but not really. I guess im buying it to cut back on clutch slippage. My truck has too much power for the stock tranny after teh dp chip and the valve body will up the pressure in there a little more to help everything out. He has tuning so you dont even need a valve body anymore, i just so happened to a weaker tranny i guess?

First question I'd ask is did you move up to the 6.0 trans cooler? My 02 cooler had 9 passes and the 6.0 has 30!!! I installed gauges and put the sender "IN" the oil pan. The damn thing stays in the cold zone (150*) most of the time and only warms to 165* when towing my 39' (20,000#+) toy hauler up serious grades. First and best mod to the 4R100 is that cooler.

Don't waste your money on synthetic oil, unless you are towing heavy the majority of the time. I saw no difference between the two at all. You do know you are only suppose to run ,ercon/Dexron III in your 4R100, don't you? They stopped making this formula back in June, when the supply is gone it's gone. I know Ford all of a sudden says it's okay now to run Mercon V, but that isn't what it says in your owners manual and what Ford has been telling us for years. Ford has never said why all of a sudden it is now OK, some claim the Mercon V has been reformulated, but this is a myth and I have researched it and there has been no such reformulation done. The Mercon V will eventually destroy your sels, by the time this happens Ford knows there won't be any 4R100's under warranty. Pretty sneeky move if you ask me. I stocked up on dyno Mercon/Dexron III over the summer.
