A shift kit is not a valve body, that I do know. The specifics of what each do exactly, it's kind of a grey area for me. There are a few people on here that have John Wood transmissions, maybe they'll chime in and help you with your decision. In many cases, the phrase "you get what you pay for" turns out to be very true. Good luck.

Vavle body by John Wood. My brother put a shift kit on his 150 and it destroyed the tranny and the kit was install the way the instructions said. Then he got it built by Aamco and never had a problem or glitch.
