BB or stock turbo?

I will probanly be buying a late 99 F-350 that needs the turbo replaced. I can get a rebuilt turbo from a very reputable diesel shop for $900, installed. Anyone know if I can upgrade for about the same money, say $1200 max? I can put the turbo on myself if I can buy one cheap enough. It's been a while since I've been shooping for diesel parts and I knew you guys could steer me in the right direction.

Here's some history on the truck:
late 99 F-350 CC long bed, 4X4, auto.
4" lift with 35's
Magnaflow exhaust
supposedly a superchips program (original owner programmed it then sold the unit)
Ranch Hand bumpers front & rear with winch and grill gaurd
other than turbo, no major defects

First on the list of to do's is new tires and then a set of gauges
stacks and DP in the distant future

they are not that hard to instal, I would say moderate tech skills, mostly just follow directions, its posted in the tech forum. I bet you could find one if you shopped around, check out some of the vendors on here.

I just wanted to give my inputs about these "reputable" rebuild shops. stay away from there. The reputable rebuld shops are on these sites, not in your hometown. I have seen waay too many time in my 5+ years on these sites where someone tries to save a few bucks and go to a "reputable" rebuilder and it backfires on them. That reputable rebuilder for that turbo will not be doing a BB upgrade. Get with TN or DI and talk with them about there products. U cant go wrong. And with the upgrades u wanna do, u might as well do the BB turbo now rather than later, because if u put a rebuilt stocker on there with the a dptuner and all that other stuff, u will wish u went with the BB turbo. So instead of paying 1600ish in the beginning with the BB, now u will be in it for about 2500 for turbos
