Called Brians Truck Shop
I called brians truck shop but had to leave a message this morning, anyways, A few questions on his tranny's. Well im never gonna have more than say 350-400 HP. What would be the price difference if i had him build one to those specs or should i just have him build the best one for 4k that ive read so much about and call it good and never have to worry. If i just get one built for say 300-350 hp do i have to worry about it at all if im gettin on the go peddle alot. Anyone know how far he's booked out?

I was looking a john woods as well, ive heard one cant go wrong with either, does he build his the same as brian just tunes them different or does he put different parts for different levels of HP.. Thanks for the help in advance

i have a bts e40d. he says the tranny is good to 750 hp. if i were you i would just go ahead and get his tranny. for a couple reasons. it is covered regardless for 2 years. his customerservice is really good. im pushing about 350 hp with my truck at the most aggressive tune and the tranny dosen't skip a beat. call him and talk to him about it. ask for him directly. i can assure you that in the long run you will be happy with it.
as far as the tranny goes. to my understanding the only thing that is stock is the housing. everything internally is beefed up. i did a lot of searching around before i bought one and his was the way to go. |

Well i just got off the phone with John Wood. He thought it would be uneseccary to buy a fully built trans. Im really only pushing 300hp. He thought a valve body would aleviate alot of my problem so im gonna go that route first. I dont really have the money for a fully built trans right now but i could have scraped it up AKA borrowed it from my dad and payed him back with my tax return. Anyways thats the route im gonna take for now. Thanks all for the help. Also should i put amsoul sythetic in it when i flush the tranny and put the VB in?

Yes, I say on the synthetic. John will say synthetic or Schafer racing oil, he uses schafer. Glad you got in touch with John. He is very easy to talk to and you can wind up on the phone with him a long time. He has no problem sharing good solid info with you. He is one of the great technical guru's out there.

But one thing to think about, is the VB or a TQ or etc. is just $$$ that you are putting into an already "used" or "tired" transmission. You will end up spending the $$$ on those items now, and your transmission will still go if you keep putting power to it. Those are just bandaids that will get you a little further down the road before you have to bite the bullet.... which is why I have done NO trans upgrades and plan on only doing it once

I told him what was going on and he told me that is what would fix my problem and if later on down the road i want his tranny he will credit me back for the valve body. He told me i dont need a built trans. Your right howard he was a super nice guy, chatted with him for a bit about....... well, trucks and trannys and jody's tunes of course. ha
