What does the tuner do?

I am looking at getting a tuner, and looking at something like the Hydra from PHP. What I am wondering is what exactly does the tuner do? Does it optimize air, fuel, and transmission shift points? Should I get what I want on the truck and then get it tuned?

If I get a tuner like the Hydra, and then I add the Wicked Wheel, is my truck then really not "tuned" because the configuration of my truck has changed. My understanding is a truck is tuned for what you have installed currently.

Please educate me on this topic.

Thanks in advance.....

i am no expert on the subject. in fact i know very little about tuning, but i think i can be of some help to you and get the discussion started. one of the main things a tuner does is adjust the pulse width of the injectors to deliver more fuel, and timing comes into play here also.

yes a tuner can do all of those things

Depends... not necessarily especially if you get a hydra

im not sure the WW will change enough to make a difference. now bigger injectors and turbos are another story, but since bill can email you tunes you can upgrade as slow or as fast as you want with the Hydra. you may find once your truck is tuned you are happy with it and dont want to dump any more money into the truck.
