6637 clearance question

I did the 6637 mod on my truck but did not remove the plastic battery housing.
it appears the top of the filter is making contact with the underside of the hood when the hood is closed. Do you think this is cutting off my effective surface area of the filter? Thanks

Ok, I was considering cutting the plastic up under the filter off (where stock airbox was) to make more room but I guess it is unnecessary. Thanks

Those guys that cut it out...did you just take everything off, and then use a sawzall or zizwheel and cut it flush?
