PHP Tunes Lope Question
Just installed a PHP in my 2000 and I love it. Went with lope, high idle, 80dd, 100 ace, 120 race, 140 extreme. Power is awesome and you can feel it in each one. But for some reason the lope tune is speratic. I could be driving with it on and one light it just idles normal, the next light it lopes and the next it starts to lope as I come out of a rev but seems to die off once at idle. Seeing as I think the lope tune is basically cutting and adding fuel to trick the motor but would bad injectors cause the truck to not lope. Compared to videos online of lope tunes mine doesn't come close.

Personally, I feel that the lopey idle calibrations from any vendor should not even be offered (and go the way of the SmokeShow program), but I'm low man on the totem pole and even though my opinions are valued at PHP, it's not something that has taken effect.
Lots of things regarding the lope idle tune will cause the truck to fail to intentionally sound like it's broken. First off is oil quality and oil viscosity. Secondly, the response time/condition of the high pressure oil system controls and feedback will make a hugh difference in how the calibrations work. Engine oil temperature also plays a part. These trucks rely very heavily on the engine oil to make the injection system work properly. When people have had concerns with these tunes, I will run the calibrations in my personal trucks to see what happens. I personally have a 1995 that will not lope with PHP's lope tune (not a big deal to me since I will never run a lope tune anyway) but with one small alteration, it will lope all day long. However, the change I make to the calibration to cause my truck to lope reliably will cause other trucks to stall that DO lope with the calibrations Bill has written. Neat, huh? My 2000 will lope with 5/40 oil, but as soon as I put 15/40 in during the warm months, it won't do it. Every truck is different and as they age, as the parts wear, and as differing oil conditions exist in every truck, it's hard to make every truck do exactly what needs to happen all of the time. |

The idea of the lope tune is kinda sketchy i do agree. I wish you guys offered the Smokeshow when i bought my chip but it wasn't listed in the tunes. Did you guys stop doing that tune?

I hope you dont get mad for me kinda hijacking.
Php, do you offer a lope tune that more replicates "blower surge"? I guess this might just be that, a surging idle. I have kinda though that would be more fun than a cam lope tune. I wont ask anymore questions!! |

Why do you want a smoke tune?

Quote:
1) the environment 2) the diesel community 3) your ego. The owners decided they did not want to encourage "smoking" because it makes the diesel community look dirty, when modern diesel technology is CLEAN and we are all about diesel, arent we? I also believe the owners child has asthma, and didnt want to be contributing to the asthma problems of the world. |

Actually, both our boys AND Corey have asthma. That was a major factor in why we decided to quit offering the Smoke Show tune. The other major factor, as has already been indicated, is that smokey trucks give all the diesel trucks a bad image and because of that image, the EPA and CARB have gone to great lengths and effort to target tuning companies.
As a person who has been tuning Power Strokes for 15 years, it would honestly be irresponsible and cynical of me to provide tuning that could likely end up in contributing to the demise of this industry. I just wish other tuners (and truck owners) felt the same way. ![]() To the OP, on some trucks the lope effectiveness really depends on just how well the HPOP works, since it's rapid changes in ICP that help make the lope work. In your case, it might just be a combination that doesn't lope consistently. That's the best I can explain it. We'd be happy to replace the tune with something else if you'd like, or we can try making the tune a little more aggressive on the lope. It's up to you. Just let me know how you'd like us to handle it. Take care. |

All I can say is I bought my php tunes for purpose. Lope and smoke have no purpose. Want smoke? Get a zf6 with the extreme. Want lope? Get a gasser with a performance camshaft. to the tunes I purchased.
