SCT versus Tony Wildman

Hey all!
I hope this is not a repost. i couldn't find anything dedicated to just this.

I was really looking at a TW 6 pos tuner for my 99 F250SD. I was going with 1.Economy 2. Tow 3. Street 4.Extreme 5. Town and 6. Smoke.

A friend though is going with the SCT for his truck. He likes the fact it actually reprograms the pcm instead of just "tricking" it.

How does the TW work? Does it reprogram or just "trick" the PCM?

Which would y'all go with?

Neither "tricks" the PCM as you put it.

It sounds like your friend is misinformed.

Get DP. A read an article once where a guy dynoed his truck on TW extreme which is supposedly 140 hp... well it is 140 hp but not at the wheels. Only produced 73 rwhp on the dyno I believe. Ill try to find the article.

TW hands down IMO best tuner for a 7.3 as to HP..TW doesn't have HP rated tunes so the guy is wrong. If it only made 73hp more than without a chip ..many reasons least of which is the inj's may not have enough fuel capacity to make more..different years have different CC's...

A sct will not run better than custom tunes...by any of the great tuners available.

Although his chips may not be hp rated, this particular article stated that on TWs extreme setting the truck put down 73 additional hp to the wheels. That same truck then used custom tunes from Jodi with DP and on tow mode alone (80 hp) put down 90 hp to the wheels. Just a thought.

Send a message via Yahoo to Dave
Jodys tunes are also known for windowing engine blocks because of excess timing

many varibles involved if it was a tow to tow would have more revelance plus seeing the tq curve....plus its not just about max HP on one Rag test ..many other considerations when choosing a chip

Totally agree, I was just giving the guy food for thought. I've owned both and I prefer DP... that's all I'm getting at

Yeah no one else listens to that around here. Jody is the tuning god in the eyes of most of these guys.

Honestly matt at gearhead, TW, beans and php are the only people that will ever touch my truck. When I finish off building everything I think Tony will get a call to live tune it.
