How to identify PMR's vs forged rods...

I heard this rumor that some '01 and older 7.3's had forged rods. What would be the easiest way to find this out and how do I identify one from the other? I'm guessin that removing the oil pan would be the only option.

There is a thread listing serial numbers and which inspection plug to pull.

I made my Samsung SGH-I997 send this.

Yeah, I've heard of people having forged in what should be pmrs but I was the first case of pmrs in what should be forged.

Only way to tell is to pull the plug! Easy to do. I wouldn't even bother researching serial numbers...

Do you have to drain all of the oil out of the motor first to check the rods?

Shouldn't have to if you use the inspection hole described above. The hole is above the pan. From what I understand, you pull the plug and 'bump' the engine until a rod is at the hole.
