Early 99 ?
Im getting ready to do alot of mods and im curious for some imput on others that have done there 99s. Ive had the truck for a few years first ford ive ever had ive really learned to love it. But to be serious i always thought it would have more power first diesel always had gas chevys after ive been on here i understand i should have bougtht a couple of years later. im going to chip,exh,intake,gauges,10k mod, trans cooler, and next spring tc @ trans.I pull a travel trailer other than that its a daily driver. Thanks for the imput. Go Kentucky.

I have an early 99 Its got a TS6pos chip-stock,highidle,50,75,100,140and a K&N air filter 4" exh into 6" stacks. I lifted it 4" w/35" tires and still pull a gooseneck trailer.Lookin to upgrade turbo & injectors later.

TS chip would be your best bet
AFE stage 2 intake would be the best intake and any 4" TB exhaust will do great i suggest a big trans cooler with a built on fan for towing and i like the autometer 3 pod gauge sets in either ultra white or z series |

That is a debated topic. Most everyone that has a DP Tuner is in love with it and boasts about how wonderful it is. I dont think you could go wrong with a DP. I have a TS 6-position chip on my truck and I really love it, but some people say its not as great as a DP tuner or a TS chip with custom tunes. It's really all about personal preference, I have no peoblems with my TS chip, but many say they would much rather have a DP over the TS. Maybe a DP is the way to go for you, seems like everyone that has one is head over heels for them.

You name I have had it or done it to my early 99. I have a lot to say so bare with me.
Intake: The only two intakes that works for the early99 are the AIS and the AFE stage 2, period. I have tried making my own and tried to make one from a 99.5 work and it does not. Don't waste your time or money on other stuff. Chip: DP or tony wildman. I have experience with both so I only recommend these two. I run DP tunes. Exhaust: MBRT is the best fit and finish I have found. MotoBlue is cheap and it works as well. You will have to get rid of your cat but it runs away easy. Gauges: You choose but you must get them with a chip and tow. Towing stuff: Your radiator does not have a trans cooler in it like other years. Ford in their infinite wisdom did not use it in this year. So, you will need an very large aftermarket cooler to help keep your trans alive. I used a 40K GVW truecool and got a radiator with a cooler in it from Ford for $118, junk yards have them for about $60. Put a torque converter lock switch in the truck. It will help keep the trans temps down when towing at lower speeds as the XLE transmission programming sucks. If you want I can give you instruction on how to wire the EBPV as an exhaust brake as well, great for long down hill runs with a load. Turbo: Beans D66, the only way to go unless you want something big like I did. Injectors: Stage 2's Transmission: BTS or John Wood Most all of the stuff I mentioned from our supporting mods other stuff you have to go directly to the name I stated above. That is all for now. I will think of more later I am sure. |
