You definitely so not want your tranny shifting hard. It should be quick, firm and smooth. When properly done you should barely be able to tell it shifted.
You can gain mileage from ts or dp chips but its never a guarantee. You will definitely gain power/performance and keep at least the same mileage. It really depends on your driving, but you can possibly gain 2-3mpg.
I personally recommend a ts chip with tunes of choice and dp is another popular choice.
I like my PHP tunes, and plan to try tunes from other good tuners. top on my list right now are Tony Wildman and Beans.
