7.3L chip

Hey fellas,

I have been searching all over this forum and seeing what folks are running in terms of a chip. Now, I do know a couple things when it comes to diesels but there are so many different companies that make tuners. And for the life of me I cant find a concrete answer for my truck. It has a Diablo chip in it now from the previous owner and the truck shifts hard with the 100hp tune. I toned it down to the 60hp and it shifts much smoother. All I want is a chip that can give me mpg, not make my tranny shift hard and late, and have a tune for towing and street performance.

I hear the Edge products are hard on trannys but I am not sure if that is rumor or not. I love my truck and I don't think the tranny shifting that hard is good for it. Am I wrong?

I'm in the same boat you are and I'm looking at the Tony Wildman chip come time to get one.

You definitely so not want your tranny shifting hard. It should be quick, firm and smooth. When properly done you should barely be able to tell it shifted.

You can gain mileage from ts or dp chips but its never a guarantee. You will definitely gain power/performance and keep at least the same mileage. It really depends on your driving, but you can possibly gain 2-3mpg.

I personally recommend a ts chip with tunes of choice and dp is another popular choice.

I like my PHP tunes, and plan to try tunes from other good tuners. top on my list right now are Tony Wildman and Beans.

Beans is the best tuner for these trucks, seconded by tony wildman. diablo??? holyhell I haven't heard of a diablo chip in forever. rip that pos out.

I have a dp tuner with straight exhaust and a intake his 80 econo and climb mt. Eagle regulare with 15 thousand in tow never shift outta high gear this is with a 6 speed and 5.13 gears.
