I bought a hd one for my 01 excursion from my local tranny shop. it was $500 CAD and at 110k km's i developed a rear main seal leak, took it to ford and under warranty they replaced the seal so i asked since they had the trans out would they mind throwing in my new torque converter and they did, no charge and replaced some leaky seal on my trans for free too! good deal for me. Im happy with the new converter and i pull a dumper trailer and have had total combined weights over 10,000 kgs

Both Brian and JW warn about putting a true high performance TC in a stock trans. I would do the 6.0/6.4 TC, it is a very high quality TC and can be had for around $400, you do have to drill a couple holes to get it to work. JW is putting them in all his rebuilds, and he wouldn't put junk in his rebuilds. I would call JW and maybe purchase everything through him.
