Cali Emissions problem

Ok I've got a 02 7.3 here at my shop that has a Dp Tuner in it and it is shuting something off in the computer that turns on the Glow Plug Control Module and if i take the chip out of the truck everything works great My problem is the customer is crying that he wants the chip ... Does anyone know which chip will work with a cali emissions truck or can i send his out and have new tunes put on it?

The DPTuner has notoriously poor hardware. Their defective design is unlike no other tuners and very sensitive to outside interference. I've never heard of the GPCM being a conflict but, they are just so poorly laid-out that nothing would surprise me

Some of the people who try and run HIDs (and have the DPTuner shut the truck down because of the interference) have successfully used Ferrite Beads to overcome the defect in the hardware. If the GPCM is producing some signal or RF that's the cause you might be able to solve the issue.

Otherwise, sell the DPTuner on eBay and buy a properly designed tuner form someone else....

Are you sure the chip is making good contact. I have an 02 with an f6 chip and never had any problems. Also is the chip burned for that truck?

The contacts are deff good and clean bc i just installed a brand new compter from Ford chasing this and after i put the computer in the truck was fine for a month untill the customer decided to reinstall his chip! I am told it only has a problem with cali emissions trucks and if it was a federal emissions truck with the good old fashion glow plug relay we wouldnt be having these problems. I do not know if the chip was custom burned for the truck i only got involved with it after another shop coulnt figure it out after dumping alot of $$$$$$ into it

I'd say it's a DP tuner issue since the problem with the HIDs.

I would contact Jody and see what he has to say about it. If it was not made clear that it was a Cali. truck then that might be the problem. I don't know since mine has the relay.

You most likely have tunes for a 49 state truck. I have had CA tunes on a 49 state truck which produced a code for a glow plug module that didn't exist. Call Jody and get the chip reflashed.
