Noob: Wastegate advice needed
2002 7.3 200,000 miles
Truck had a banks kit installed when new, 195,000 miles ago (4"exhaust:, trans command, chip, gauges and Big head wastegate). My question is: The stock turbo fried. I have a 38r on order. Should I use the waste gate set up the new turbo comes with, or take my bighead off the stock turbo and install it with the new 38r ? 2nd question: Can I pull the banks chip out and replace with one of the 6 position chips without worry? |

I don't thing your Big Head will work on the 38r. Are you wanting to put another Banks chip in?

Thanks for replying.
I am ditching the banks chip. I was thinking of a dp or php. So the actuator that comes with the garrett will do the job ? Thanks again Jason |

The boost levels of the two turbos are quite different, the wastegate on the 38r will work just fine. If you replace your banks chip you'll have to remove the trans command too. PHP or Beans chips will have better tunes than the Banks setup all day.

One more question:
How big of a deal is it to remove the trans command ? |
