7.3 Turbo/Injector Setup
I have 1999 F-250 4x4 early 7.3 and looking to buy a Garrett 38R turbo and stage 1 single shot injectors. I don't have the money to buy them both at the same time tho. Which would I be better off getting first? The truck will have MBRP dual exhaust, cold air intake and a programmer on it when the turbo or injectors is installed. Will the stock tranny be able to hold up to this? I'm not making a race truck just a everyday driver with the occasional towing. Any suggestions on a better setup can be added also.

If you want to go with the 38R I would suggest going with stage 2 injectors. As for which one to go with first that I am not sure of and hopefully someone with more knowledge than I will chime in. I do not think that it will matter which order you go in to be honest though. Also if you do with the stage 2 injectors you will need to get an HPOP upgrade such at the T500 or SRP1 to name a few, and whether or not you go with stage 1 or 2 injectors you will need custom tuning to run the single shot injectors in case you were not aware. Hope this helps.

Oh and also you will want to at least do an upgraded torque conver, valvebody, and trans cooler if you are going to start throwing big HP at it.

Is the Banks TransCommand even worth running with this setup? I don't have the funds to be buying a torque converter right now either. What kind of valve body would you recommend? How much power do you think i'd be running with with stage 2's, 38R, cold air intake, aftermarket intake manifold, ts 6 position chip and exhaust?

I would recommend the BTS valvebody have heard nothing but good things about it. You'd probably be in the 400-450 hp range.

Alright i'll look into it, thanks for the help.

yeah I don't think i'd run stages 2s on a 38r. and your going to have to do a little more than that for stages 2s you can't just throw them in and call it good. Supporting mods are going to come first. And if you throw stage 2s in it you better have money to buy a turbo because it will wear out your stock one. For stage 2s I'd look into h2e or s366 setup. I'd stick with stage 1s. You are going to have run custom tunes for single shots and split shot injectors are point less so I wouldn't even look at aftermarket split shots. If you go with stage 1s your hpop should be ok as long as it's healthy. If you do stages 1s I don't see why it would matter if you do turbo or injectors first. definately look at supporting mods first. Valve body (brian's truck stop, John wood, Factory tech) and regulated return are recomended.

Alright. Would a dominator 66 turbo be bettera than a 38R? I am leaning more towards stage 1's. I don't wanna be pushing so much power where I need to upgrade my hpop cause they are pretty expensive.

The D66 turbos are for the Early 99 model year trucks. Depending on the health of your HPOP you may have to upgrade the HPOP anyway even for the stage 1 injectors which is why I suggested the stage 2's. Completely up to you though, just throwing out suggestions. I see a lot of people get the stage 1 injectors and then 6 months later they want to upgrade to the stage 2's. Just trying to prevent that.
