Newbie:What MBRP to get?

Just bought my first diesel. Looking to buy a MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust. What kit should I buy the muffler or straight pipe kit. Thanks for the help.

I went with the muffler.
The muffler is essentially a straight pipe wrapped by whatever they put around it. The tube inside has baffle openings. Supposedly, if the openings are pointed the opening toward the engine, the exhaust is quieter. If the openings point toward the exhaust tip, the exhaust is a little louder. I have mine pointed toward the exhaust tip. It seems loud enough for me.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but the install directions actually have a specific direction that the muffler is supposed to go...

I have the 4" MBRP turbo back kit, just the performance series though. It's aluminized with a muffler but it doesn't come with a tip. Same function, just no shiny tip at the end. I would go with a kit that includes a muffler and get a delete pipe just in case. You may like the straight pipe sound. I ran my truck with the stock exhaust without a muffler for awhile and it was annoying as hell.

It all depends on what you like.

Personally, I have never had a muffler on mine and I love how it sounds.

I have the 5" MBRP with the muffler and love it. Some sorry SOB stole the exhaust tip off mine... other than that it's great.

Most people run straight pipe, but a few don't like it and run a muffler. I have 4" straight pipe and have since I have owned the truck. Cruising at 70 with the windows up you can carry on a conversion with out even having to raise your voice. Honestly the engine is louder than the exhaust, in fact you can't even hear the exhaust even with the windows down unless you are under hard acceleration. Personally I would just get the 4" with a chrome tip and a delete and call it good. Up to you though obviously. Good luck.

I have the 4" turbo back with muffler. Has a nice throaty sound and is loud enough for me. I also hear more motor than anything though. I ended up catching a special and paid 340 5" tip included.

Damn! is that for the Aluminized or the T-409? I thought I got a deal for $437 shipped on a T-409 4" with muffler and a T-309 5" tip.

Aluminized. You can get them cheaper than that. Look at ebay once. They sell turbo back all day long for under $300 for our trucks. I ended up calling MBRP to make sure I could get the 4" downpipe and tip. They were awesome to work with and he gave me some online discount. Not sure if the TB on ebay and such has the 4" downpipe. That's why I called. I think I paid a little more for the DP but they threw in the 5" tip. Just gotta call around and shop around.
