another.....chip question

first off my truck . 2001 ford f-250 crewcab shortbox . 7.3 with BD compressor wheel, napa 6637, 4" mbrp exhaust, rerouted crank case vent. zf6 stock clutch, 4x4, 3 inch lift, 285's.

in the new year im going to be in the market for a chip. ive done a lot of research on different chips and i think im going to go with a ts style chip, but not sure on who's tunes.

i use the truck truck for driving to work about 75/25 highway city driving, going camping in the bc interior so climbing some decent hills along the coquihalla loaded with people and gear, hauling firewood, the odd time towing car trailers with moderate loads.

the thing im concerned about is at the moment my truck has a slight clunk while im cruising if i let off the throttle . it seems like either excessive backlash in the diff or transmission gears. i greased the splines on the driveshaft it helped slightly, but its still there.

so to make a short story long, now for the question . most of my buddies 7.3's are autos. i ran into a guy who had a 6 speed in his aswell with a dp style chip. i got to talking and he said he also has the same slight clunk with his , but when he has his chip on the clunk gets real excessive, almost undriveable , like when you run a low ohm resistor with the icp mod.

im just wondering if anyone with chipped 7.3's with standards can chime in and let me know how their trucks are driveability wise, whos tunes you have , whos tunes youve tried, and why or why not you like them over someone elses.

thanks guys, kyle

Maybe I dont fully understand the "clunk" issue but with a 6 speed how would the chip make the other guys worse. Because you control shift points and if the clunk is driveshaft/diff related the chip has no affect on either of those?

well i have a 97 250 with just a super chip tune, and my 01 350 crew cab long bed dually and my 99 350 extended long bed both have the ts 6 position and both are great i had the bully dog 6 gun on my other 99 and it was good just blue to much smoke and really did bad on fuel and the super chip was good but where you set it is were you left it with the ts i normaly keep it in the 50 or 75 hp setting and when i wanna beat on it a bit i kick it into the 100 and the 140 is great just with the auto i dont like how hard it shifts but you wont have the prob with a manual beside all i have on all my trucks is exhaust afe or s&b and 4" turbo back nothing crazy if that helps at all

the way he described it was a more touchy, sensitive throttle pedal, like you would experience with the icp mod. the reason it would be worse with a standard than an auto is because an auto somewhat has a "cushion" while driving because when in gear there is always some rotational force on the driveline even while shifting, so the driveshaft doesnt get to slow down and "clunk" to the coast side.

im not knocking DP's chip, but maybe he got a bad one, maybe his ICP is faulty and causing the driveability issues, im just trying to get some other opinions

I am very satisfied with DP tunes. Makes a huge difference when towing the 5er to have all the nifty choices in my sig, especially the decel. I thought about all the different tunes I wanted for my application, and DP had everything.

That said, I hear good things about PHP tunes.
