7.3 questions PERFORMANCE RELATED

Ok, I have a 2002 EX with the 7.3L I need a few ideas/questions answered because I will be honest, Im no GURU. I have the factory turbo and I want to upgrade. Everyone tells me that the Garrett "Ball Bearing" version of mine is good for a few HP, but its better to pony up and spend $1500 for the Stage 2 upgrade by either Garrett or Banks ect. ect. Now for the good part.

Rumor mill has it that you can take a 94-97 turbo (compressor side) and mate it to my stock turbo (2002) for the same larger intake and the 30% more air flow. Is this true??? If so, has anyone done it and what's the results?

Been told that the stage 2 turbo on the older 94-97 Powersrtokes was a waste of money and that gains were minimal, but the compressor sides match up to the 99-2002 turbos.

Help from the 7.3 gurus??

Smells kinda fishy to me, never heard of anyone say anything along those lines. Normally its just that if your gonna mod your truck and need a turbo to keep up with your air intake needs to get the garret 38r
