edge evolution truth?

so i have a 2001 f350 crewcab 4x4 7.3. i wanted guages to watch my egt's, tft, and other stuff. my question is (despite their false advertising of 7 different power settings) my edge evolution has only 3 power settings.

1-stock (this is not a power setting, i already had this!)
2-towing
3-race
4-extreme

i wanted the setting that was supposed to be for fuel economy. that is what i am all about, the best possible milage. when i ordered the evolution, one of the 7 settings was called "mpg" or "economy" can't remember which. of course, they forgot to tell me that none of those setting work with my truck.

could someone tell me which one of those settings is best for fuel economy, just for driving the truck by itself, normal driving. i called edge and they wouldn't tell me nothing, they are useless. i did not get one bit of useful info out of them.

race really made the truck run fast, i am worried it will burn up my tranny or something. not even going to touch extreme. i have not seen anyone talk about edge products here and it is making me nervous. will the custom tunes really increase my milage? all i do is tow a fifth wheel occassionally and drive very calmly around town or to the lake.

The evolution has allways had 3 programs. If your running an auto watch out it will eventually tear your transmission up. I ran the Evolution for a couple of years but I have a 6 speed too. I think you are talking about a different Edge product. See if you can post up the advertisement.

You wanted to get the Edge Juice with Attitude, thats the one with the different settings and the gauges. The evolution will do you fine if your okay with it and best MPG will be achieved on the highest tune with conservative driving

thanks, that's what i was going to do. has anyone other than duckslayer actually seen a tranny get smoked by the power levels on the evolution?

duckslayer, did you drive conservatively? did you get better milage? which setting did you use? thanks

oh, mine does have guages.

and edge is good for gauges and thats about it, I know of two people here that blew a trans or in one case 3 before he figgured it out, unless you send it to PHP to have it made into a gyphron er how ever it is spelled then I would only use it for gauges.

I had a buddy toast his tranny with an Edge Juice w/ Attitude. He's still running the Edge, but has a built tranny now. The built tranny is holding up fine so far... close to or over 2yrs now... He's currently saving up to buy custom tunes and ditch the Edge...
Personally I'd never put it on my truck though... heard to many horror stories and seen it happen to my friend. To each there own though...

If you research it you'll see they were smoking trannys. I have a 6 speed so my tranny is fine. I drove it most of the time on level 2, level 3 was way smokey and has a real touchy accelerator pedal. After I got used to having it in my truck I did get a little better milage, I got like 13 to 14 in town and 15 to 16 on the freeway. My truck is really touchy on what fuel it likes, if I run Flying J, Pilot or Maverik I drop 2mpg. I allways try to run chevron or sinclair. Good you have gauges allready, that Evolution will get hot in #3 and watch it if you tow in #2. By the way the Edge Juice with Attitude has no transmission tuning it also has less power. I had both I liked the Evolution cause it was more powerful and can read codes. I put the Juice and Attitude on my dads as his 01 is an auto and is safer for it.

The old Evolutions were tuned by Bill (PHP) when he worked there, and the CTS work great for gauges.

No matter what you run you will be fine if your not constantly beating on the truck. Monitor your temps and you will be fine. Don't let people fool you that custom tunes are perfectly safe, I know several people who have smoked trannys with custom tunes including myself
