Quick gauge pod question

May be a stupid question but before I paint my gauge pod does it need to be prepped like anything else where it gets sanded and all that?

I just painted mine literally 30 minutes ago. I took a can of carbeuator/choke cleaner. Spray it on there covering the entire pod, let dry, and that's it. The pod will be clean as a whistle and ready for paint.
