Exhaust Brake and Tranny Controller

I'm running a banks exhaust brake in conjunction with their smart-lock and trans-command controllers. When using the EB i've noticed its a huge help to grab second gear when i'm in the 30-40 mph range. The downshift is very firm and aggressive and the braking force is substantial. my question is, is this how the system is designed? to be manually downshifted or is this doing damage?
