What to start with?
I'm sure you guys get this all the time, But i was looking into buying the Bullydog Gt Tuner for my 02 7.3L completely stock but i started reading up on the forum and now i'm a little confused on what kind of tuner to get. Or should i worry about doing my exhaust first?

Before you get any kind of chip, I would recommend doing an exhaust first. This will help keep your egts down with whatever new chip you go with. Even then, I would consider doing an intake before the chip as well, but the exhaust for sure.
As far as a chip, everyone says to get a custom tune from TW, PHP, DP, and there several others out there as well. Generic chips aren't bad as long as you don't push them hard. I have a banks big hoss in mine and haven't had any problems, but i do want a custom one though. Hope this helps |

First off you want gauges. I just ordered my gauges and intake on friday and i am ordering a walker BTM muffler 21470 after i type this. Your standard exhaust is 3.5" and this muffer is also unlike the stock 2.5" muffler. It can be had for around $55 shipped to your door. From my research the last couple days this is almost as good as an aftermarket 4" exhaust without the cost, now if your exhaust is junk it would be worth the money to go to 4in. Check out the other threads on this site about the BTM muffler and you can even go to yahoo and do a search find lots of good info on it.

Beans or PHP will be the only two tuners I ever put on my truck.
Chop the factory muffler and strait pipe it. Read up on a DIY or Tymar intake. Install at least a trans (if auto) and EGT gauge. THEN install a chip. |
