turbo problems?
put a load behind my 01 7.3 psd the other day. its been awhile. well it sounds like i have a leak somewhere. i can hear a hissing and it sounds like its on the drivers side under the hood. what could it possibly be. the truck ran fine with no power losses. well it ran as good as it could with 19,000lbs behind it. any ideas. someone told me that it was a exhaust dounut ring leaking. but it did not make since to me. i had a gasser with that problem and it does not sound the same. any and all help appreciated. it has a chip and DIY intake also 168,000 miles.

Well, first just look at your up pipes, if you see soot around them or on your firewall then i'd say ya got a up pipe leak. Was it an actual hiss sound or was it a chug chug kinda sound out of the turbo? Coulda been turbo surge. Do you know how many lbs of boost it did this or did it do it the whole time? Just trying to give some ideas maybe.

Does it do it without the heavy load? How was the turbo spool, feel normal? If you downshift does it go away? Stock of after market intake?

Answered my own question about intake when I read all the way to the end of your post. Does it stop if you down shift? Mine will do the same thing under heavy load if the turbo is trying to push more air than the motor can use. If I downshift it goes away. Does it sound like it's coming back through the intake. Is this the first time you pulled with the intake on?

yes this is the first time i ve pulled a load that heay witht the intake on. i pull my bayboat, but its aluminum and doesn;t weigh nothing. if i do not have a load behind it, it does fine with no problems.
