almost every thread I read talks about this 38R turbo. Can someone tell me what kind of benefits I would get from this. Boost numbers, max HP the turbo is capable of with the supporting mods? I have an 02 with PMR and I just found a 99 with Forged rods. I'm going to start building it slowly but I'm trying to figure out exactly where I'm heading. I want something daily driveable that get's decent mileage still but will blow some smoke on a cummins anytime I want to.
Is the 38R the best turbo to use or are there better turbo's? I'm wanting to be 600+ HP. What all do I need to do?
From what I understand if you want 600+ there are better options out there. Everything I have read and been told is that the 38r is a great turbo for up to 500 hp. Maybe someone else will chime in.
I agree if you want 600 HP a 38R will be too small... maybe a modded H2E or a 42R.
You will also need a very large check book for 600 HP.There are a lot of guys on here that make over 500HP that will chime in.
I am pretty sure the 38r is one time use. But you need to port your heads to get over 500 hp if you run a 38r and port your heads and get some gnarly good tuning you might be able to hit 550
If your set on the 38r id get some headporting done, a stg 1 cam from gearhead automotive, some 238cc/100% hybrids, modded 17* pump from terminator/stealth stg 1/Swamps Gen 3 HPOP, fuel system, trans.
