NAPA Filter mods
I want to put a new filter on the truck and wanted to try the napa 6637 mod. Anyone have some great directions? Pics? Pros or Cons. I am not made of money so the cheaper the better.

I found that one and it was the only one I could find. I still have questions though. How do you secure the air filter and keep it from vibrating around. The air filter isnt reuasble correct? If not how long will it last. Now I go from a $12 filter to a $45 filter every 5k? Just trying to decide if this is a good way to go. And again money is tight but if I could save and buy a reusable one for say $100 I would like to weigh that option.

So I found that Summit sells a K and N filter thats almost identical in size to the Napa 6647 for about the same price. I heard people say that K and N are not as good for diesel as they are for gas. Why? Does anyone have study results or facts? Is it just their opinion? They sell diesel intakes made by K and N, surely a company that specialises in air filters wouldnt sell crap and would have done some sort of testing? The KandN has to be better then the stock set up! I would rather buy a reusable airfilter and go that route but dont want to damamge the engine. KNN-RD-1460 $63.98 Estimated Ship Date: Monday Warranty Brand: K&N Engineering Product Line: K&N Filtercharger Air Filters Universal: Yes Shape: Round straight Length (in): 9.000 in. Inlet Flange Inside Diameter (in): 4.000 in. Top Diameter (in): 7.000 in. Bottom Diameter (in): 7.000 in. Filter Color: Red Filter Material: Cotton gauze Quantity: Sold individually. |

there are plenty of sites that will back up the K&N is the worst of the bunch claim......and if i owned a diesel i would plug the inlet hose with a dirty t shirt for a filter before i would use a K&N.....just my opinion......Marc http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm first test even proves K&N do not flow that much more air with the filter alone than a standard paper filter......Marc |
