NAPA Filter mods

I want to put a new filter on the truck and wanted to try the napa 6637 mod. Anyone have some great directions? Pics? Pros or Cons. I am not made of money so the cheaper the better.

I found that one and it was the only one I could find. I still have questions though. How do you secure the air filter and keep it from vibrating around. The air filter isnt reuasble correct? If not how long will it last. Now I go from a $12 filter to a $45 filter every 5k? Just trying to decide if this is a good way to go. And again money is tight but if I could save and buy a reusable one for say $100 I would like to weigh that option.

it is a bigger filter....so it will last longer....and as far as a 12 dollar filter....if your using an fram or other aftermarket....your risking your motor. they do not seal as well and ive seen them let dust through. as far as securing it....you would have to talk to one of the guys who has done it. I, personally, do not like the re-usable, cleanable filters.....although most of the guys here run them. i do like this filter though. there is only two ways to increase airflow.....surface area (better) or bigger holes, which can let small dirt particles through (bad).....this does it with surface area.........Marc

Quick question, I have a stock airbox with a k&N on an early 99. Will this mod product any noticable gain in power? I know it filters better, but what about power? (who didn't know I was going to ask that........)

So I found that Summit sells a K and N filter thats almost identical in size to the Napa 6647 for about the same price. I heard people say that K and N are not as good for diesel as they are for gas. Why? Does anyone have study results or facts? Is it just their opinion? They sell diesel intakes made by K and N, surely a company that specialises in air filters wouldnt sell crap and would have done some sort of testing? The KandN has to be better then the stock set up!
I would rather buy a reusable airfilter and go that route but dont want to damamge the engine.

there are plenty of sites that will back up the K&N is the worst of the bunch claim......and if i owned a diesel i would plug the inlet hose with a dirty t shirt for a filter before i would use a K&N.....just my opinion......Marc

first test even proves K&N do not flow that much more air with the filter alone than a standard paper filter......Marc
