will a programmer off of a 97 F250 fit a 2001 F250?

No it wont.....Different PCM. Depending on the chip it may be able to be re-burned.

If it is a TS Style chip you can send it to someone like Matt @ Gearhead and have him reburn it for the truck you are going to be running it on.
