yeah true.. thanks for the advice. i knew that making a fast truck also means you got to make it durable... im just new at this whole "performance" thing.. im use to just workin a diesel till its worn out. ive already been through the first 7.3 non turbo... pretty good truck and pulled my front end loader around alot.. then i bought a 94 or 95, cant remember, 7.3 powerstroke and pulled basically everything i hooked up to it and i could truck that truck driving all the way to new york! hah. i just recently bought an 2002 7.3 and i really like it and my friends are getting me into this whole diesel performance thing.. i use to drive an 99 dodge 24V cummins.. i must say it was a pretty good haulin truck but the damn transmission always had leaks.. the interior was basically ****ty.. the carpet would come undone on the floor and went through two dashes due to them cracking and caving in on me! see now in my eyes a truck isnt just ment for hauling and showing off.. if your gonna spend your money on something the damn thing better hold up to your standards and my standards with that damn dodge drove me crazy fixing oil leaks and the interior ****ing up on me all the time... i think dodge doesnt deserve that motor and that motor with the pretty C on the side of it should be in a more cabatible truck like a chevy or a ford.. IMO!! well thanks for the input on the fuel and engine performance set up.. i hav a good idea and commen sense on how to make my motor handle the stress of the mass amount of compression it takes due to it being a diesel... im just new on what brands are good out there.. i use to keep up with that but i slowly stop caring after awhile..

Allow me to take this quote one step further. Keep in mind this is meer advice from someone who has been around the block more than once and spent way to much money on the wrong combinations to obtain so-so results, at least until I blew up my motor and built one the right way, with the right parts with the right people in my corner. With all that being said....................DO NOT MESS WITH THE ENGINE IN THE TRUCK!!!!....Leave it alone, enjoy it, use it, take care of it. You can take all the money it would take to mod that engine and buy another long block and tinker with it as time and money permit. You can find all kinds of parts in the for sale sections on these forums and save hundreds, if not thousands in the long run. This is exactly what I would do if I had to do it all over again. It would save thousands of dollars and a $hit load of aggravation. And for what it's worth...having a large hp # is cool and all for forum talk but as I've found out it's pretty much worthless on the street, you rarely get to flex your muscles. Anyway, just food for thought. |

I've been gathering parts to make my build all happen at once, but I don't have a block to build. Wish I did. It would be a lot quicker to pull this engine and drop a built block in there. Hopefully it'll only add a little money for some machine work to do it this way. And Thug is absolutely right about HP on the street. The big dodges around me (that's all there is) all have their trucks turned all the way down on the street. I don't know anybody that runs around with there 600HP truck pushing 600 all the time. It's usually only at the pulls that you see 'em turn there programs up. Except for a few idiots that like to fog the entire road out and piss everybody off. |

your price list is a bit high rosewood injectors 1700 for 238s forged rods you can buy someones block then sell yours and make most of your money back, turbo do an s400 like marty (ebay bout 1000) has with a lil bit of nitrous to spool (300 used) her, bts tranny, comp springs 90 ebay etc its not bad if you do the labor yourself

Well, like I said, that was all off the top of my head. I didn't go search ebay or the PSN classifieds for cheaper parts. And I forgot about Jim ![]() S400's and 300's aren't expensive, but are you gonna run the off the shelf turbo? Or put a specific wheel and housing in there to match what you wanna do with the truck? An S400 is gonna throw you into the 2.8 class off the shelf. And don't forget the mount kit. If he's askin which turbo are availible, fabbin his own kit might be a little outa reach. The cheapest I've found one of those is about 1200 new. And like you're sayin, doin the labor yourself can save ALOT of money. |
