NEW MEMBER & DIESEL OWNER QUESTIONS?

I AM NEW TO THE FORUM AND TO A DIESEL AND I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS. I LOVE THIS SITE AND HAVE BEEN READING THREADS FOR A WHILE AND FINALLY BECAME MEMBER TONIGHT. I SPENT 2 YEARS LOOKING FOR A 7.3 TRUCK WITH LOW MILES,6 SPEED MANUAL SHIFT,XL MODEL 4X4, IN GOOD SHAPE. I FINALLY FOUND ONE ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO. IT'S A STOCK2002 F-250 XL 7.3 DIESEL,6-SPEED, 4X4, EX-CAB LONGBED WITH 117K MILES IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I WANT TO DO SOME MODS TO INCREASE MPG AND IF I GAIN H.P. THAT IS EVEN BETTER. I TOW OCCASIONALLY BUT NOTHING HEAVY OTHER THAN THAT IT IS JUST DRIVEN NORMALLY. I AM ON A BUDGET SO I AM TRYING NOT TO GET CRAZY WITH THE MODS. I PUT A 4" TURBO BACK EXHAUST ON THIS WEEKEND. IT FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK LOST LOW END JUST A LITTLE. IS THIS NORMAL?? I ALSO NOTICED THE TRUCK DOES NOT SEEM TO BLOW BLACK SMOKE OUT OF THE EXHAUST WHEN I GET ON IT. IS THIS NORMAL? I ALSO NOTICED MORE WHISTLING FROM THE TURBO AND I HEAR IT SPINNING WHEN I TURN THE TRUCK OFF?? I PLAN TO DO AN INTAKE NEXT.

Wish you would have contacted me prior to buying the exhaust. The factory restriction is when they necked down a 3.5" exhaust to 2.5" to put it through a offset muffler which caused more backpressure. Back pressure is needed for a gasser but not wanted for a diesel. If you changed the down pipe to 4" than , yes, you will loose some bottom end, all you needed to do was replace the muffler with a straight 3.5" muffler like the Walker BTM, or straight pipe it. For an intake the DIY Tymar is the cheapest, but loud, I prefer the Ford AIS, nothing will filter better and the filter will last over 50K. The Zoodad mod will help you now and is FREE so do it. I would also suggest gauges, you can PM for the best price on Isspro EV's. I know a shop that sells them at a great price. You won't see black smoke on a stock truck, black smoke is unburnt fuel and actually a bad thing, if you want smoke get some tunes from DP or TW. If you have any ? just PM me.
