GTP38R

Just lookin for some info on the GTP38R. As many of you know, my stock turbo is takin a crap, so ideally I'd rather upgrade. From what I've seen the 38R is a good turbo.

I want to know how well this turbo handles upgrades such as bigger injectors, up to what size, how much boost it can handle, and how well it would work on a currently stock truck that has plans for future upgrades, someday.

Any other info on it would be great as well.

Thanks.

here is my experiance with it on my truck and my buddys truck, on my truck i like it for now. it cleaned up the smoke (have not had my chip installed as its been getting some "custom" tunes... i have stage 2s on my truck and it handles them great, i tow with it and it does good. the things i dont like about it is that it didnt do much for reducing my EGTs (reduced them about 50-75*) and i had a little, and i mean a LITTLE flutter out of it when i was hauling my dozer (about 30K with trailer). i really wanted the h2e set up but wasnt able to get it shipped to me in the time frame i needed and i found my 38r that could overnighted.

now on my buddys truck he beats the living piss out of it... he has hybrids from swamps (238s i believe...) and he drives the truck HARD!!!! he is always floor boarded and pushing close to 40 PSI and running 1600*+ on his runs. turbo is working PERFECT for him.

from what i have been told is that the 38r is good for around 450HP. with what i want to do to my truck it isnt going to handle what i want later on as i like to change things and i am able to do that with the H2E. if i were to keep my truck where its at now then yes it would be perfect but im never happy with any setup i will ever have

I have the 38r with stage 2's and it handles them well. I see around 35psi of boost. Its rated for 40psi I believe.
I put down 450hp on the dyno. At full throttle there is a slight haze of smoke coming out of the exhaust, so the 38r does clean the stg 2's up good.

It is a loud turbo with a open intake and no foil on the ic pipes, Might get annoying on long trips to some people.

I had this turbo with the stock injectors for about a week before I went to the 2's. It spooled up quick and dropped my boost numbers from 30psi with the stock turbo to around 25-27psi after I installed it. Not much of a performance gain over stock turbo on stock injectors.

So far im liking what i hear. The noise is not a problem, i took the foil off my IC tube just so i could hear it more. Whats the noise like compared to a stock turbo?

No performance turbo is going to gain you much without additional fuel to push it to its potential. You won't notice much if any gains with stock injectors, but a 38R will give you room to grow for sure.

The one im lookin at has a 1.0 housing.

Also, is this going to attach to my factory downpipe? Does this turbo have an EBPV?

That kinda what i expected, mostly i just want a better than stock turbo with room for bigger sticks someday. Cause i know if i get a stocker, im goin to end up buying a bigger turbo some day anyway, so why not just do it now when i have the perfect opportunity. I don't like to replace things that arent broken, but when they do break i like to upgrade.
