CCV MOD Question...
ok fellas,
so i did the crank case vent mod. Turned the vent housing on the valve cover around and put a tube on it routing it to the back behind the cab and dumping it there... now the the question/ possible problem i have is how much venting does thing thing do on a powerstroke?? cuz there is a pretty decent amount of smoke coming out of it.. like i'm sittin at a stop light and i can see the wind blowin it out from under my truck. Now the mechanic side of me wants to say "I got a pressure problem or O-ring or somthin".. but the virgin powerstroke side of me says " well maybe its supposed to be that way!?" I've worked on Cummins that didnt do that, and Detroit, and CAT.. so for learning sake, i'm just gonna say IDK?? Teach me! so whatchyall think?? |

Totally normal, which is why the canister-to-atmosphere mod is favored over the just-to-atmosphere mod. Ideally you should run the hose all the way to the rear. Now, if you are describing billowing clouds of whitish smoke, then yeah, somethings up. Anything less is normal as stated. I made my own canister with a six inch long section of 4"ABS, capped at both ends, packed with "Scrubbies" (Them little round steel wool-like kitchen scrubbers). Takes care of alot of that excess "Smoke" Which is actually oil vapor, really. Yer not gonna like the smell after awhile the way you have it routed, either.
