Normal EGTs with stock exhaust?

I'm concerned about my EGTs now that I have a pyro. My truck is stock except for the intake 6335 and my veggie conversion.

It would seem with air temp being about 90F I'm idling in the 400F range and can get up to 1k at 75mph sometimes running light. I usually wait to turn 'er off till she is below 400F. This seems exceedingly high to me. My IDI 6.9 runs 200 degrees cooler - granted it's got a MBRP 5" and not cat. My thermocouple in in the driver's side exhaust manifold after the rearmost cylinder.

Will an exhaust really make that much difference? I don't particularly want to remove the cat between SMOGs - but would consider it if it was a simple bolt on/off situation.

Suggestions?
