So, What's the best oil for me?
What's the best oil for my soon to be mild to moderately modded 2001 F-250
7.3L? My truck has 200,000 miles and I've heard that going with a synthetic could cause leakage around the seals (due to the miles and age of the engine)?? What would be a good oil for a high mileage yet somewhat performance motor??? Thanks |

I run Delo 400 15/40 in my 2000 Excursion 7.3 and in my big rig. I use either Wix or Baldwin oil filters in both. Run Lucas oil additive and fuel additive also in both. I do an oil anaylsis every other oil change and have no breakdown of the oil. Change oil about every 7000 miles on Excursion about 12000 on the rig. Have been running Delo for about 30 years. This is what I use, hope this helps you out. Have 1.1 million miles on the rig. Good luck

Anybody Else??? This is my first powerstroke and I have no idea what's in there now, nor do I know what has been used for the last 200K. I know that to most people oil is just oil but if all it's had for close to 200K is regular ole' oil, would it be a bad idea to go to a synthetic now??? Thanks Last edited by E'sStrokr01 : 06-27-2009 at 07:03 PM. |

in most warm weather situations, 15W40 is called for. I like the Shell and Motorcraft myself. My truck sees winter, and doesn't get run very hard, so I run Motorcraft 10W30 (CJ4) all year. Seems to start easier with lighter oil.
