See Sig

Just city: 12-13 depending on the weight of my right foot.
Mix city/Hwy: 14-15 " "
Highway only (Unloaded) - I've gotten as high as 19. As stated by others, depends on Hwy speeds and terrain.
Towing 10K 5er: Well that's another story - 9-11, but boy does it pull!!!!

2001 7.3 Crew Cab Long Bed 4X4 auto
DP tuner chip (best mod by far)
4" exhaust
DIY intake
Rotella syn-Eng
Royal Purple syn-Trans/Transfer/Diff
Tire pressures 55 psi
Interior-R-870 wingmaster

In town verified >5 times 17.2 to 18.0 MPG (LA driving)
Fwy 60-67 mph 21 MPG
Fwy 70+ mph 18 MPG
Towing 8-10 MPG (who cares, strictly a diagnostic check)
Cost delta factor to gas vehicle 1.088X
Its like having a gas car that gets 20 to 23 mpg

Truck in sig gets as high as 17.5 mpg if I drive it somewhat nice (and I mean somewhat) and gets 15.5-16mpg if I drive the same routes and drive it how I want. Plenty of full throttle, but top speeds stay about the same. Lowest I have seen was 13.5 and that was back with the small tires on the freeway at 70+mph. Those are all of course empty. I don't ever pay attention to the gas mileage when I am towing or hauling....The truck is working...it's going to be bad/worse.
-Aaron

Edit: I have the 3:73 gears (thought that was in the sig....Sorry)

I filled up today and got 17.12mpg on my last tank. It is always between 16 and 17.5

Thats mixed city, country driving. Not really any highway. 18 yr old not driving like a race truck but enjoying the 7.3 at the same time.

edit: 4.10 gears also.

I have a 2001 regular cab/long bed XL with a 6 speed and 4.10s. It is completely stock except for a D-Fuser 18k+ module and gets 18.1 in 100% city driving. I very seldom exceed 2000 rpm.

Add a chip, depending on which one you choose, and yes, its fully possible to hit 18mpg or even better, IF YOU GRANNY IT!! As soon as you start rabbiting off of stoplights/signs, or doing better than 2000rpms on the highway, start saying goodbye to fuel economy. The temptation to drive these trucks like sportscars is monumental. Good luck.

I used to get 19-21 highway mileage until I changed tires from 265 70 16 to 305 70 16. Now I get about 18 and thats driving normally. and yes its COMPLETELY stock. All I have is a foam air filter and I only got that cause its cleanable and reuseable.otherwise the stock paper filter worked fine.
