EGT PROBE LIFE

So one of my buddies was giving me sh*t for puttin my probe before the turbo and keeps telling me that pyrometer probes are only good for 60K then they just break off eventually im just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this or does anyone swap out on a regular basis,

They won't break off. Never heard of that before. If you don't run it pre turbo then you really don't know what your engine is doing...

Your buddy is an idiot, sorry but it's true!!! If they were only good for 60K and they broke off I wouldn't have one in my truck!! Mine has been in for over 7 years and it has 68K on it, I must be lucky!!

IF they did break off, I would choose to replace a turbo, rather than risk melting pistons because of false egt readings from a egt probe after the turbo.

Agreed. Ive several compadres around these parts with probes that have exceeded 100k and are still working fine. NONE have busted off... Ever. Not sayin it hasnt happened ever, just sayin that I can name eight trucks off the bat that its never happend to, and the newest probe is somewhere around 70k. ALL pre turbo. Its true, yer buddy there is a bit norant.

Over 120k on my first probe, no issue...

Your buddy is FOS...

Show him this picture and remind him this is what he is trying to protect...

well thanks for the info lol i figured it was BS, stainless steel doesn't really ever get weak, in any case if you think thats ignorant my "buddy" is gonna sell me his 97 for like 3k because he thinks its a POS, just because he wont take anytime to just maintain it so im happy bout that, everyone around here is big into dodgers its sad
