Cleaning 7.3 turbo engine

Is there anything special to do about cleaning these engines? Can you wash with soap and water and let dry well before starting? Should I cover anything?forever!!!

Cover up the power steering pump and air filter (if you have an open element intake) with grocery bags. Get the engine WARM (just barely warm to the touch, not hot!) and spray with simple green. Let soak, rinse with garden hose. Remove bags, start motor and let it idle to help dry up the water.
Pressure washers work too, but you run a much higher risk of forcing water someplace you don't want it (lots of electrical connections up there...)
