My hpop runs out of oil,air locks, vapor locks what ever you call it when I pull a steep hill in low with a load.Shut the truck off and it want crank.I have to undo a sensor add oil to the pump turn the eng over to get the air out.My mechanic showed me how to do this. His thinking is its a inj pump relay or sensor that is getting stuck open under a load. This dumps all the oil out of the hpop back into the eng.I'm waiting for a call to tell me what sensor or relay to get.I guess I'm asking does this sound right before I buy this and change it.
Thanks T8
I would get a second opinion. The low pressure oil pump puts out enough volume to supply the HPOP under any conditions imaginable. Even when I had a burst HP oil line, the truck still ran just fine (till the whole crankcase was drained - about 1 minute at 60mph). That means that all the oil in the crankcase was picked up by the LPOP and sent to the various bearings, and the HPOP and there was no major interruption even when I was pumping 4 gallons of oil per minute on top of the engine.
I can't imagine a time that would be worse than that. My truck did shut off due to an empty reservoir, but that is because there was noting else to pump into the reservoir.
I am thinking that you have a faulty low pressure oil pump.
