Thanks dougo, I was on the Amsoil site looking at those, I am seriosly thinking about one of those systems, just trying to find out more about them. But I like the looks of them, If they work as advertised, that would be a real money saver if you do alot of miles, and plan on keeping the truck for the longterm.

Also, take a look at "Oilguard". They are a company that makes bypass oil filters. They make a custom kit ready to bolt on to a 7.3 for around 250 dollars. The extra filters are 19 dollars each. There are testimonials on that site of guys getting huge miles between oil changes, and motors with hundreds of thousands of miles with only minimal wear. I'm getting one for my truck asap.

I know that there are several different companies that make the bypass systems, I think I'll check around with them all and see the best prices, filter costs etc, dosn't hurt to shop around and get an idea as to what your buying.

There is a do it yourself also. Im looking into it right now. Its a baldwin base with filter and you make your own hoses. I need to find out what micron it filters down to. Will post it up when i get more info

Filtration Solutions also offers a nice filter setup. I have a Amsoil dual remote bypass sitting in the garage to go on my dodge.

The thing to remember is that the by-pass filter does not have the full oil flow going through it. So if you do a DIY kit you will need to have some type of restrictor to slow down the flow. I have not seen the Baldwin base or any of the DIY stuff for one. The micron rating should go down to 2 microns so it will get the soot out.

Yeah everthing that I can find online anyway doesn't filter to 2 micron for the do it yourself! I dont know if the Amsoil BE100 would fit the Baldwin base? That would be a good way to go! I guess in this instance if your going to go with the bypass you probobly should stay away from the diy unless you can find a good filter to fit the Baldwin base. Another thought that sh*$ its pants

I tend to think that something like this, I would rather buy a good quality system, and not have to worry about it. The way I see it, these people put a lot of work into designing and testing them, and they have a reputation to watch out for.

For your 7.3L, here is what I would do.

Amsoil BMK11 (single bypass filter, keeps the full flow in the stock location)
EaB100 filter
BK1102 Billet Oil Fill Cap

Get your oil supply from the oil pressure sending unit port and use the Billet oil fill cap to return the filtered oil to the crank case.

Much less expensive than most of the other kits out there, and its backed by a great name in the industry.

Thank you for that Diesel Nut, but I think for me, I will go with the compleat bypass system. If I do what I want to do, I could be putting up to 5-7k per month on the old girl. I try not to skrimp on other stuff, so I'm not going to here, I've always believed in preventitive maintance, over the years I have learned that it usually works out cheaper in the long run, to do it right the first time.
