Weird noise

99 F350 Powerstroke

While driving I get a weird noise kinda sounds like its really windy outside!
Only happens while driving with throttle slightly pushed in, so little throttle that im not getting turbo whistle. When I let off throttle or press throttle more wind sound goes away? I have no power loss, its just annoying!

Should I be concerned? and what is it?

sounds almost Turbo related? perhaps exhaust back pressure valve related? a friend of mine just had to have his repaired. he said he "had a crack in the flange". that was last night and have not had time to ask more questions/get more details. he lost little power as well. have you pulled any codes from computer? does it do it cold and hot? is it a "wooshing" sound? loud sucking sound?

What kind of air filter are you running? Stock or aftermarket?

You're right. It is weird I don't know. Maybe check your air charge tubes going to the intercooler. Maybe the clamps are loose. You would think you would be loosing power if that were the case though because you would be loosing turbo boost if they were leaking. If it were a gas engine, I would almost say that you have a vacuum leak. Some of the techs might chime in on this later. Anybody else have any ideas

I have blown one of the hoses that go into the intercooler off before, so I know what that isand what it sounds like! I checked all the clamps on the hoses to see if any were loose, but non were! I hope a tech chims in!! Its really bothering me! Thanks for the advice!!

Just a thought, but have you added anything to the outsid of the truck, like cb ant. or wind deflectors in the last while, that may cause a noise.

No add ons outside truck. I only get the noise at a certain spot on throttle, and it goes from silent for about 2-3 seconds to a sound like the wind hitting the truck.

Have you checked inside the air intake for any obstructions, or maybe a rip in the filter?
