Stupid Question about Boost

How can I tell if the motor gets too much boost (no guages)? Would a light come on, the truck run funny, etc? What damage can be done when this happens? WHat's the easiest way to cause over-boost (so I can prevent it)? Thanks.....

if you overboost it will throw the check engine light and you could blow your head gaskets but 7.3 heads are capable of 40 psi of boost so you should be fine is your truck stock
