Advice on future purchase (with pics of PSD I'm looking at)
Hello all. I'm brand new here and been reading up for a few days.
I'm looking for a relatively clean 99-03 PSD F250, short bed, extended cab 4x4. I located this one in my area, a 2001 model. He's asking a reasonable price for it. I looked it over pretty carefully today using the checklist I found on this forum. Everything checks out. Here are the specs as I know them: -balljoints replaced ~10k mi ago -tranny rebuilt at ~90k miles, owner said he had the shop put in the standard upgrades (something about replacing the clutch basket??), he also uses Mobil 1 ATF in it. -Changes oil religiously at 5k mi intervals with Shell Rotella 15W40 -He said it has some type of programmer that you can set for economy (+60hp), towing, etc. -It has an 03 and later impeller on the turbo. He said it helps it spool up quicker. -Tires will need replacing in another 10k miles or so -brake controller -3 guage pod with EGT, boost, and trans temp -aftermarket stereo -interior is in real good shape for the miles -I think thats an AFE intake, does this cause the "dusting" I read so much about ![]() -electronic shift transfer case -new front wheel bearings -It comes with those bumbers, which I'm not a huge fan of, but its not a deal breaker -Mickey Thompson wheels -tranny fluid looked and smelled fine -new water pump Here are the photos, I look forward to your thoughts and advice. Thanks for looking ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I can't see your pics, but a few things:
Not sure what a "clutch basket" is... see if he'll show you a receipt for the trans work to see what was done. 99.5-03 all use the same compressor wheel in the turbo. A lot of guys switch to the early 99 "wicked wheel" to get rid of turbo surge, I'm guessing that's what this guy did also. See if you can find out what programmer he's running, it's likely the reason the tranny fried. AFE intake has a good reputation so you should be good there... K&N is the one to watch. How many miles on the rig? Sounds like a pretty good find. |

Where are you located? The rear bumper incorporates at 10k pound rated hitch. Do you also have a reciever hitch at this rating that would be included in the trade. I'm out of virginia beach. |

Thanks for the replys guys. I got another for you to look at here
2000 Ford F250 Lariat 7.3 Turbo Diesel I don't really care if he has another set of wheels tires or any of the other mods he's done, so it doesn't increase the value in my book, what I do care about is the transmission has never been rebuilt. What would be a good offer? I'm thinking $10.5k |

Id be interested in trading bumpers if you want regular bumpers, Im about hour south of you.
Oh on the second ad, You cant make 400hp out of just a tuner and stock injectors. Whats the money on the 1st one? Last edited by HunterJ; 04-08-2009 at 12:18 PM. |

What you said in lines 2 and 3. That 00 looks like a nice rig, but somebody has spent too much time reading magazines if they think they can get 400hp with a flash tuner.

You are on. You can have all of the extra ranch hand parts minus the toolbox, for your stock bumpers (assuming I get the truck). I'm heavily leaning towards the first truck. The gentleman was a real stand up guy, retired navy, did all his own work, and has owned it since 50k miles. He's towed stuff occasionally, but has maintained the truck well, and it shows. Its got some scrapes and little stuff on the paint, but a good day spent on it and it would shine nicely. The wheels are in good shape too. |
