Noise, P1298, and P0284

I was looking into a noise that sounded like a rod, but I understand that bad injectors can sound like a rod knock. The noise would be intermitint at idle.

Run a buzz and contribution test on a OTC Genesis. It returned theses codes.

Buzz test P1298 Ignition Diagnostic Monitor Failure
Contribution Test P0284 Cylinder # 8 contribution or Balance Fault

My question is could the #8 injector be cause the noise and both faults?

Thanks

It's possible the #8 injector could be bad, but it's also a typical problem with #8 that'll never go away being the last to spray & the last to fire. 7.3 injectors are known for cackle, too. This problem could also be caused from the grey CMPs(CPS). I had the same problem with mine & when I went with a black CMP, my #8 fault went away & I didn't have the loud cackle.

Could the black CPS be the fix

The truck runs fine. Could the Black CPS be the fix?

It's very possible. @ 1st, most people thought that if a grey CPS threw off 1 injector, it would also have to throw off a corresponding injector. So if your #8 was failing a contrib test, it would also have to throw off #3. Now people are finding when they replace the grey CPS with just #8 failing with a black one, the #8 failure is fixed. Most grey CPSs are known for making the #8 failing on & off.
