1250 is a rule of thumb, but 1300 can be fit for a few seconds, if you havent seen 1200 yet you are safe

Since you are the poster and you posted about pre or post, I'm not totally hijacking this thread....right? Are there others here that have an opinion about where the probe should be set. I've seen both but it seems you would obtain more accurate results with the probe right outside the exhaust ports in the manifold.

Pre-Turbo is considered more accurate since a great amount of cooling can happen between the manifolds and the DP. The cooling is not linear so it's not as effective in determining egt's.

Pre-Turbo was VERY simple and took all of 30 min to drill, tap, mod, and wire up. I've never done post turbo install, so I can't comment about that.

1250* F is the maximum SUSTAINED EGT you want - you can run all day at or below that temperature. Short spurts (track/truck pulls) you can reach as high as 1300-1400 with no ill effects - then again you need to think about how your motor costs 10k to replace!

There's a lot of trucks running high egt's for short times at the track, or sled pulling. If you build a truck and participate in multiple drags and pulls eventually you'll do a significant amount of damage. But if you wanna drag it a few times or pull it you aren't really going to hurt it.

off topic but, did u put it in w/ the motor out or still in the truck? if in the truck, how?!?!?! i've heard about leaving the truck running. how long of drill bit do u use, etc. i have one post turbo and am going to put one in pre turbo this spring. just wanna know how, easliest and BEST way to do it.
