Get yourself a DP or TW chip with an econo tune. Check for a dirty fuel filter and dirty air filter. I'm getting 16.5 in town and about 18 on the highway with mine, and that is on crappy winter blend fuel.

Shouldnt be using any GAS in a DIESEL....

You should start with...

In tank mod and pre-pump mod to get the air out of the system, then NAPA-6637 air
filter mod, then either ditch the muffler for a straight pipe or a big truck muffler.

Those will get you simple milage, but to be honest you will never recover your money
spent on mods with the saving on fuel.

i have a hypertech set at 46hp(going to a dp or tw one day), muffler delete and a k&n(i know i'm changing it to a 6637 soon). two weeks ago i took a trip from central jersey to northern vermont which gets pretty hilly (750miles total) on one tank of fuel. the lie meter said 23.5, doing the math it came out to 20 mpg. i would also recommend synthetic fluid in the motor and trans. i don't know the real fuel mileage when i first got her but the lie meter never read more than 14mpg till i did this stuff

With any chip or tuner the overhead milage is worthless, will never be accurate.

Stock my 02 (in my sig) was getting about 15 MPG on the highway and 9 pulling a load. Sinc i have done the mods in my sig i am geting about 19-22 MPG highway and 13 Pulling. That is calculated by had and not using the overhead computer (off about 3 MPG low)

LOL thought I corrected that! How do you figure better gas mileage doesnt pay off in the long run. If I buy this SCT tuner for $200 and it gives me 2mpg better then its paid off in under thirty tanks of FUEL By the way "Lariat" is spelled this way.
