Emissions warning light

I'm new at forums, so please bare with me.

I have a 2002 F-250 with 7.3. with Banks Power-Pak. 55,000 miles. The "emissions" warning lght came on. Book has little info. Says possible poor fuel, try refueling, if that doesn't clear the light, take to dealer.

I've refueled, purged the fuel filter and cleaned the K&N air filter. Light still "ON", but truck seems to be running fine? Any other suggestions or help would be appreciated. The dealer just stuck me with a 900 dollar bill for replacing my fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit and I don't want to take it back to them unless I have too.

Emissions light

Thanks. The light is a symbol that looks like a "engine".

I'd start by checking your oil...

Clarifying

I guess I'm not being clear. The dash light symbol looks like a motor. The owners manuals says it means an emissions problem.

What I'm trying to find out, is what might cause the problem? The manual suggest possible poor fuel etc.

I've refueled, purged the fuel filter and cleaned the air cleaner. What else can I do to clear this light. What sensors trigger the light?

I drive an 03 7.3 auto, my light has come on one time so far and only stayed on for about 30 seconds. i let into the throttle and was watching the road not gauges, noticed the light and my egt was up a little over 10. i have also heard somewhere if youre over 21 lbs boost it may come on? i have the same question though.

That light is not the emissions light it is the service engine soon light. You have to have a scan tool to turn the light off. It would also be helpful to read the code that is causing the light to come on.

You need to have your codes read, this will tell you what the problem is. Then you need to get a lawyer and sue that dealer for taking you to the cleaners. I am so glad I have neevr had to take my truck anywhere near a stealership.
Since you are new let me also tell you to get that K&N filter out of your truck quick!! They have been known to dust many PSD'S. It is so bad many dealers will cancel your warranty if they even see one. They don't seal right and they let way to much dirt into the engine and dirt is death to a diesel. I hope you haven't had it in there long or driven in a lot of dusty enviorments. It takes months to dust a motor, but it does happen. If worried pull your intake and shine a flashlight at the turbo blade, if it has small chips or rolled edges it means you have enhaled dirt, also look for dirt on the inside of the intake tubes, there should be a slight oil film, but no dirt. You can get rid of the oil by doing a CCV mod ( PM me for more info on that), if you want the best filtration possible get a Ford AIS intake ($200 from powerstrokeshop.com) or you can do a SrageII it will flow a bit more air, but nothing filters better than the AIS. The element was designed for use in the Humvees during desert storm to keep them running.
Good Luck

Not all auto parts stores' code readers will work on a diesel.

I'm sure somebody will chime in saying "obd II is obd II"
