Looking at my first diesel truck - need advice

Howdy guys - I'm in the market for a Powerstroke truck and thought I'd ask the experts about a vehicle.

Here's the specs:

2001 F350
Crew Cab
7.3L
4x4
8' bed
85,000 miles
Leather/all pwr
Excellent condition

The dealer wants $15999 - NADA puts it at $14,875. I'm guessing he'll take around $15K or so.

I haven't got the VIN yet - when I do, I'll get an Oasis.

What do you think? Is this worth pursuing?

BTW, I live on some acreage and will need something soon for light farm duty and pulling a 30ft+ travel trailer. I'm guessing the 7.3L will do it.......

With the economy and the price of trucks in the toilet I would offer him 12k and start there.

Ditto. Price varies some by region but I am guessing the dealer got a hold of that rig for 8 to 10 grand. It will pull a 30 footer pretty good.

Make sure you look it over. Check the oil, air filter, tranny fluid... and anything else. Might want to check to see if it is chipped. I am sure there are tons of other things to look for.

Get someone that knows how to look over the air filter and housing. You need to make
sure it was not leaking. Also look at the turbo fins to make sure they are not worn.

Ive been looking for some time. I today bought a 02 ext cab 4x4 fully loaded/ black leather long box. It has 129,000 miles and runs and drives great w/ no leaks and everything works, I paid $11,400. This was the best deal Ive come across. So 14-15 for a crew w/ leather 4x4 and 85,000 miles would be decent but they are a dime a dozen so make sure its the one you want.

As far as hauling, we haul cattle/equipment all day long no problem. We now own 4 7.3 and all the others have 300,000+ miles still run strong. Just try to get one thats never been chipped.
