No Highbeams!

I have been trying to fix this problem for a week now. On our '99 450, the high beams seldom work. I took the instrument panel out and checked the higbeam indicator, and checked the sealed beams in front. All good! with the instrument cover off and the switch hanging out the HB's worked, Put it back together and nothing. I replaced the light switch, still nothing. So, I went to the handy dandy haynes manual and it only shows warning and exterrior lamp diagrams. Only headlight diagrams are for 2000 and up. The only thing shown betwee the lamps and headlight switch was the MF switch, so I replaced that too. Still nothing. Lots of money spent and no HB's!

Is there a relay or something else not on my schematic?

Hmmm. If it works when you pull it apart and doesn't when it's together then I would have to suspect a plug or ground not making good contact. Those things are hard to diagnose without starting at one end and running it down. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

pull the cowel back off of the steering column and check the connectors that plug into the MF switch. Check for both broken retainer clips that would make it not stay fulley engaged and also maybe a corroded or pushed out pin that isnt making good contact. Thats the first place to start since it worked with the switch hanging off of the column. That tells me its probably wiring related and should be close to the switch.......

Thanks, I just wanted yto make sure it was a wire and not something in the circuit that I didn't know about.

I put the old MF back in and it's working for now. Maybe I got it.

Thank's again!
