New Guy ineed of PM info

Hello Everyone,

First off I'd like to say great site. Very informative, However i'm short on time so No homeowrk for me! I hope i can get some help.

3 weeks ago i bought myself well whats in my signature. I am from PA and i bought this truck in FL. Over all this truck is very solid and rust free. The milege is up there and i belive pm's were a "run her till she stops".

Anyone have a list of thing to check? I would like to have all fluids changed i.e. engine oil, trans, differentale, axles, coolant, power steering, grease point or luib points, etc. etc. Anyone know all proper fluids to be used?

I have many questions. I hope i am explaing myself okay.

What is th proper way to change power steering fluid?

Do the 4x4 hubs, brake calipers need anything? If so what and how?

My biggest concern now is the exhaust. The left side pre turbo donut is bad. Slow to biuld boost. Any one have any input on this?

I do have a new fuel filter that came with the truck. She starts hard in the cold 40*f and below needs plugged in and even still runs very hard until she gets warm. I believe it might have something to with the leakng exhaust. I put in new fuel, so?.

Like i said this truck is very solid and rust free. She just need a good pm. I am very knowledgable on doing all this work myself. I never been a ford guy until this truck. so i am lost on this new beast.

I'd tell you wat i drive now, but i might not get any help.

Okay just one hint: i swing only one way....

And if nyone has any inpt on some good DIY's hat'll help the truck over all. I'd like to delete the muff, but this is for business use. well i'll stop here and wait to see what follows.

Sorry man, but I really don't have the time to type all this out for you in one simple easy to read reply!! Especially since I, and countless others , have given this info over and over again. May I suggest you use the search feature and do a little research on each subject in question. If you still can't find anything PM me and I will walk you through it.

I would change all fluids, including brake fluid, replace all filters and inspect all hoses and belts. As for fluids auto trans uses only Mercon/Dexron III, TC use Syn ATF, as well as the PS fluid. Mercon V is fine here. Diffs you need to look and see what you have and what fluid they call for, should be in the owners manual.

What is th proper way to change power steering fluid?

Pull the return line coming from the brake booster, yes the brake booster, run a extension of this hose to a bucket, have someone get in the truck start it and saw the wheel back and forth while you keep the res topped off. Don't let air get in!! 3 Quarts should flush it all out, you will see the difference in fluid color.

Yes, the calipers have slide pins that must be lubed or they will freeze, use caliper grease on these. The 4x4 hubs should be pulled, cleaned and re lubed every year or two depending on mileage.

You can build a simple boost leak detector for $20 in hardware, anywhere where you see a leak fix this connection, if you have black soot around your pipes replace the seal.

NO Not fuel related at those temps. Check out this link and it will solve your hard start problems.

Replace factory muffler with a Walker BTM, do the Zoodad Mod, CCV Mod, Coolant filter, add a 6.0 trans cooler if you are going to tow and of course you want gauges!!
